Peter Boyle, R.I.P.

Putting on the ritz everlasting.
Broad headed. Forever young.
Frankenstein.

What do you think?

i never saw that tv show he was in, the last one, the one that made all the money.

but he was in young frankenstein and taxi driver, and he was friends with john lennon.

did you know r.i.p. was latin? i didn't — then i was in an old, old cemetary in germany, and nearly every stone had "r.i.p." on it.

"Reqiescat in Pace" -- I had no idear. If you have to go, you might as well go with a Latin send off.

That bit, when PB is dancing in a tuxedo on stage in London, and Gene Wilder is looking on - the quintesential proud dad - is one of Mel Brook's finest moments. When PB opens his mouth, and cock-a-doodle-doos 'putting on the Ritz' - it doesn't get any better than that. The TV show was PB being the good trooper. And he did a great job with it. I didn't know he was a friend of John Lennon's. Interesting.

opaleye -- I remember hearing Wilder tell the tale (on ye olde NPRe) bout how he came up with that scene and Brooks fought hard against it, digging his heels in, then finally relenting after some epic struggle between them. Wilder asked why he was letting the bit in and Mel said that Gene fighting that hard was what he needed to see to know it belonged in the movie.
