Why is 6 afraid of 7?

True-fact dialog tonight between my 6-year-old daughter and my 3-year-old son:
She: “Why is 6 afraid of 7?”
He: “Cuz 7 is a monster.”
And I don’t know. I just find that funny.
I mean, yeah, the more traditional response would be “because 7 8/ate 9.”
And sure, that’s what they want him to say.
But really, strictly speaking, he’s right.
9 is gone. 7 is a monster.
And 6 is wise to fear.

  1. Agreed. Your son commented on the first vision that came into his head. Of course his mind is not ruled by the “they” mentality, but rather by his imagination. Let’s face it, adults are a drag. This interaction between your kids further reinforces my trust in children and beagles.

  2. my understanding is that 6 is actually related to 7 and is also a monster. he is probably more afraid of what he will eventually become after 6 is eventually promoted to 7 due to the outstanding circumstances surrounding the case.
